Mutnovsky volcano

Slowly we come to the foot of the volcano where we set up a camp for the night

Mutnovsky is an active volcano. The absolute height is 2322 m above sea level, thyroid type

Volcano consists of several cones merged into a single array. Northwest cone displays signs of modern volcanic activity, which can be observed in the central crater measuring 2 by 1.5 km and in the current active crater. Basically, the volcano expresses its fumarole activity when a huge amount of energy is released in the form of emissions of volcanic gases and a variety of hot springs. This is one of the largest geothermal fields in the world

At the foot of the hill Skalistaya Sopka, which is next to Mutnovsky, the Lesser Valley of the Geysers is located. In fact an active fumarole field produces hot gases which pass through a stream of cold water, heat it and in some cases create a fountain effect, that is how the name to these hot springs was given

The next day we are heading to the crater of Mutnovsky volcano. The path lies through the hill Pemzovy. The ascent is not rapid, takes about an hour and ends with a spectacular view of the caldera with a towering volcano Gorely in it, volcanoes Opala and Asacha. Climbing through the snowfields to the volcano we approach the gorge of the Vulkannaya river flowing out of the crater through the fault. We enter the deep crater surrounded by steep cliffs. The glacier descends from the top of Mutnovsky to the bottom of the crater on the eastern side. Powerful jets of steam and gas are pulled out to the surface through ice cracks. There are many bubbling mud boilers, fumaroles, beautiful native sulfur deposits at the bottom of the crater Return to base camp. On the way we visit the waterfall in the canyon Opasny

After dinner we are heading back home
